WHY

This project explores the opportunity to create an app that encourages people to improve their wellbeing by practicing breathing techniques regularly. The study was conducted through quantitative and qualitative research, which included surveys and interviews with individuals about their mindfulness, wellbeing goals, anxiety, and experience with tracking apps. The research identified two personas, Séverine and Dev, who both needed help to enhance their peacefulness. The problem was that people felt bad when they couldn't maintain a regular breathing practice, which affected their motivation.

HOW

The design opportunity was to create an app that would help individuals improve their wellbeing by keeping them motivated and guiding them through regular breathing exercises. The process included working on user journeys for Séverine and Dev, conducting a competitor analysis, and using brainstorming techniques such as mind mapping and MOSCOW diagram. Low-fidelity sketches were created to visualize the main user flow and to assess UX copy. Mid-fidelity wireframes were created to show key features such as the breathing interaction, reminders, educational component, and personified Bubble to track progress through gamification.

The app's interface represents calm, reliability, stillness, clarity, and minimalism. A moodboard was created based on user interviews, which suggested the app would be mostly used in the evening and early morning. So, harsh colors should be avoided, and a dark theme would be nice for the eyes. Also, 70% of our oxygen is produced by plankton. I liked the idea of working with a dark blue color, which is the color of the deep seas but also of our atmosphere. The key screens include an onboarding screen, dashboard screen, breathing exercise screen, setting-up a reminder screen, and profile screen with a personified Bubble to track progress. The app's style was kept simple and minimal, with a deep blue color and a focus on micro-interactions to make it easily recognizable and pleasant.

TAKEAWAYS

Setting the scope was of course a challenge for this project, with only two weeks to work on this. It has definitely been good practice in finding balance and getting to know how fast I can work while still producing quality work.
